Gharsana tehsil

Gharsana Tehsil(In Hindi and Rajasthani घङसाना तहसील, In Punjabi) is the one of 9 tehsils of Shrigangagnagar district of Rajasthan, India. Gharsana tehsil is the southernmost tehsil of District shri Ganganagar. It is bordered by Anoopgarh tehsil in north, by Bikaner district in east-south direction. The border touches Bahawalnagar district of Pakistani Punjab.

Contents

History

It was area of sandy dunes, horny shrubs and trees. Hindu Bagris and Seraiki dailect speaking Muslims were original residents of this area. Arrival of waters of Indira Gandhi Canal by Anoopgarh branch has important role of flora and fauna of this area. People from other tehsils of Shriganganagar district, Bikaner and from Punjab and Haryana came here and composite culture took its place.

Old villages and towns

Rojri, Dhandhu, Sataiyan,Khobar, Khanuwali, Kodiband, and Shekhra are old towns of this tehsil.

Geography

This tehsil is a part of Thar desert. Sandy dunes and horny shrubs, trees are basic characteristics of the area.Irrigation by Anoopgarh branch canal has encouraged agriculture activities in the area. At present sandy dunes and green fields can be seen along with.

Economy

 Agriculture is main occupation of people. Wheat, Jawar, Guar, Mustard are main crops. Gypsum is important mineral found in the area. Many people earn  their living by working in Gypsum mines and factories.

People of Gharsana tehsil

 Hindu and Sikhism is practised by majority of people. Islam is also third important religion in this tehsil.

Languages

Bagri, a dialect of Rajasthani language is spoken by majority of people. Punjabi language is second important language by people. Seraiki (some consider it a dialect of Punjabi language) is also spoken by few people. Odh and Bawri people speak their unique language. Hindi is official language.

Culture

Bagri and Punjabi cultures dominate the cultural colours of the tehsil. The embroideried Odhni (mostly of red colour)is symbol of Bagri women. Long shirt and ghaghro(long frock type clothes) and Borlo(a head ornament) is traditional dress of Bagri women.Punjabi women wear suit and salwar with chunni(cloth on head). This dress has also become popular with women of other communities. Some women of Hindu and Muslim Seraiki people still wear ghaggra(long frock). Purdah (veil) custom is mainly in vogue among Bagri women.Men wears mainly wears pant-shirt,kurta-payjama and dhoti(Punjabi call it chadara)-kurta.

Tourist attractions

¤1.Guruduara at Gharsana town is seeing worthy.Inside Guruduara you can see beautiful paintings related to Sikh history and saints.This is located on Anupgarh-Gharsana road.

¤2. Rojhri dham is located at Rojari village  south-western part of Gharsana tehsil.Beautiful temples are seeingworthy.This place is associated with god Hanuman.It is situated on Gharsana-Bikaner road.For detail see Article Rojhri Dham. 

Transport

Almost all big villages are connected with roads. Old mandi Gharsana, Jalwali, Rojri are located on Gharsana-Bikaner road. Mdr  103 is main road which connects Gharasana with Rawla Mandi and then with Khajuwala(town in District Bikaner). The road from Rawla on west side helps to reach 7 KND, Khanuwali and then 365 Head. Railway facility is not in this tehsil.

New Mandi Gharsana, Rawla Mandi, Rojri, 365 head, Khanuwali, Old Mandi Gharsana, Sakhi, Jalwali, 32 Wali Puli, 5 Mld, 12 Mld,10 GlD 17 Md, 22 RJD are major villages.
